The TRIO/SSS Program Support Specialist will serve as one of the primary advisors for all TRIO/SSS students (first generation, low income and/or disabled) through the adoption of a highly intrusive advising model.

Job Duties

  • Serve as one of the advisors for all TRIO/SSS students.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection process for all eligible students.
  • Adopt a highly intrusive advising model as part of the TRIO/SSS care team to motivate students to seek help when they need it, through social interaction, one-on- one advising meetings, and forming strong relationships with students.
  • Work with TRIO/SSS students to develop a transfer plan.
  • Works with TRIO/SSS access team to develop an educational plan for advisees.
  • Monitor and communicates academic progress.
  • Track all interactions with students.
  • Promote involvement in campus activities and organizations and plans, schedules, co-facilitates workshops.
  • Collaborate with community resources in order to build a community network that assists TRIO/SSS students obtain internships, job placement, job shadowing, and further instructional workshops and programming.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorâ??s degree required; masterâ??s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of TRIO/SSS populations and intervention strategies
  • Experience with adult learners
  • Supervisory and/or instructional experience
  • Ability and commitment to facilitate the progress and success of TRIO/SSS eligible students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate in both small and large group settings and with diverse groups of people including co-workers, students, and campus and community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, to maintain and access paper and electronic files.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Enthusiastic and dedicated to the challenges of helping other people.
  • Ability to function collaboratively as part of the TRIO/SSS access team.
  • Professional in communications, appearance, relationships, and responsiveness.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision.
  • Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. driver's license and good driving record.

  • The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
