Position Summary | Conduct a range of assays to assess the effects of the opioid oxycodone on maternal physiology, placental function and fetal brain development in pregnant rats. Work with an experienced research technologist and graduate student to harvest and process tissue samples. Perform single cell RNA sequencing of placental and fetal brain samples. Perform histological and imaging analyses of placental and fetal brain structure. Assess levels of hormones, growth factors and inflammatory/stress markers in placental and fetal tissue by RT-PCR, western blotting and antibody arrays. Perform analysis of fetal neurotransmitters by RT-PCR and LC/MS. Assess maternal plasma biomarkers using custom Luminex arrays. Work collaboratively with other lab members and the wider research team. Maintain laboratory records, give presentations, and prepare reports and publications. |

Required Qualifications | PhD (or analogue) and substantial knowledge of human and/or animal reproductive physiology. Significant experience of working with, and breeding rodent models. Excellent communication skills. An interest in placental and/or fetal brain development and experience of genomics or transcriptomics and bioinformatics would be desirable. |
