Schedule: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM 3 days per week Every other weekend & 4th shift per month required

Weekly Hours: 34.5 Daily Hours: 11.5

Compensation:

  • Weekly Gross: $3,170.00 Per Week
  • On W2(Taxable): $720.00 Per Week ($20/hour)
  • Stipend (Non-Taxable): $2,450.00 Per Week

Position Overview:

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on a contractual basis. This position requires clinical expertise in critical care nursing with a specific focus on pediatrics. The RN will provide high-quality, relationship-centered care to pediatric patients and their families, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

This opening is due to existing vacancies and travelers who withdrew prior to assignment start. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the care team during this period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, competent, and high-quality nursing care through the nursing process and evidence-based practice.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of critically ill pediatric patients.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans.
  • Manage care delivery under the Modified Primary Nursing model.
  • Educate patients and families about care plans, discharge planning, and health promotion.
  • Model Mount Sinai's Relationship Centered Care principles (e.g., Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
  • Maintain compassionate and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Respect patients' preferences, cultural diversity, and individual needs.
  • Support service recovery and escalate patient/family concerns appropriately.
  • Ensure patient safety by recognizing and escalating risks or gaps in care.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, compliance practices, and institutional safety standards.
  • Document accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) to support quality assurance.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • License: Active RN license in New York State (unrestricted).
  • Certifications: BLS and PALS (Required).

Experience:

  • Minimum: 2 years of experience in a Pediatric ICU setting in a hospital.
  • Preferred: Strong background in critical care nursing and pediatric emergencies.

Technical Competence:

  • Proficiency in clinical procedures (e.g., venipuncture, catheterization, CPR).
  • Competency in using EMR and hospital information systems.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.

Must have 2 yrs of exp in pediatric ICU in a hospital setting.
